Corporate Work Study Program

The Corporate Work Study Program at Verbum Dei

cwsp JAThe signature component of Verbum Dei High School is the Corporate Work Study Program, a national educational model in which businesses invest in student workers to make college-preparatory education possible for students with economic need. This unique program allows businesses to fill entry-level clerical positions with no overhead, and it provides students with the ability to earn a significant portion of the cost of their private, college-preparatory education and the opportunity to gain professional work experience.

Every Verbum Dei student takes a full course load of college-preparatory classes in addition to working one day each week in the professional offices of our business sponsors. As a proven business model, the Work-Study Program is designed to meet your entry-level employee needs and your bottom line. The partnership also offers invaluable mentoring and motivation for our students while reinforcing the thinking strategies and lifelong learning behaviors emphasized in the classroom.

The Verbum Dei Work-Study Program benefits your company’s bottom line, our student’s educational career, and the greater good of our collective community through workforce development. jjovel2At Verbum Dei, the Jesuit charism of ‘caring for the whole person’ has included an in-depth career preparation experience. The village that raises our young men extends from our campus on Central Ave in South Los Angeles, to the corporate offices and board rooms that move our city. As a proud alumnus of Verbum Dei and CWSP, our mission is intimately connected to the values by which I lead and the aspirations I have for the present and future of our program.

The Verbum Dei experience introduces the students to elements of success in a very hands-on way. From summer training to networking workshops, and of course- four years of professional work experience, the Verbum Dei graduate transitions with much more than a resume; he graduates with a strong sense of responsibility, familiarity with receiving and giving feedback, importance of following through on commitments, and a stronger knowledge of self as they begin to select universities and majors to kick off their careers.

To be a Verbum Dei partner is to be an integral part of a formula that is changing the trajectory of families and thus transforming communities from the inside. We look forward to empowering our rich legacy and look forward to expanding our mission to more corners of our community.

In Faith,
Jesse Jovel
